Acceptance of an anatomical dose depends on the needs of the university at the time of the donor`s death. As a result, anatomical donors are required to make alternative arrangements in case the SEN is unable to accept the anatomical donation. Upon the death of an anatomical donor, the legal parent or executor must contact a physician and inform Hope Memorial Chapel, which administers the UNE Anatomical Donor Program. Contact information for the Anatomical Donor Program can be found on the back of the anatomical donor`s membership card and in the donor`s anatomical documents. Legal Services provides legal advice and services to the University and its controlled entities in legal matters affecting the University. Legal Services does not provide legal advice to employees regarding personal information or students. He coordinates the university`s external legal services.
The Uniform Anatomical Gifts Act allows individuals to bequeath their bodies to medical schools or hospitals without the permission of their loved ones. However, this anatomical donor program requires the consent of relatives for donation in order to preserve the sanctity of the donor`s family relationships. Therefore, it is important that the legal parent or an executor sign the donor form. Under Maine`s Uniform Gift Act, a donor`s wishes take precedence over those of his or her legal dependents. However, the university urges anatomical donors to discuss their plan with their families so that their wishes can be clearly understood. ONE will refuse the anatomical donation if there are strong objections from the family. The medical examination of the body can take one to four years. When the study is complete, the anatomical donors are cremated and their remains are returned to the legal parents or executors. When donor forms are completed, the donor`s anatomical wishes must be indicated, including future contact information for next of kin or executors. When the anatomical donor enters the program, it is important that the family stay in touch with the anatomical donor program to ensure that their family member`s remains are returned, or if they want to change the anatomical donor`s documented arrangements.
Legal Services provides strategic, professional and independent legal services to enable excellent business relationships and support the University in achieving its mission and objectives. In the fall, an annual multi-faith memorial service for anatomical donors is held. Next of kin or executors of anatomical donors are invited to attend these services. After completion of anatomical donor studies, one to four years after their death, legal parents are informed of the date, place and time of the annual denominational funeral. Legal Services is committed to providing the University with high-quality legal advice and services in a timely and cost-effective manner. Legal Services advice and services include: By completing the anatomical donor forms prior to death, anyone over the age of 18 can donate their body.
