Stephanie March joined the cast as Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Cabot as the show used many guest actors and actresses to portray the ADA characters in the first season. Tamara Tunie took on the recurring role of forensic pathologist Melinda Warner, replacing Leslie Hendrix`s character, Elizabeth Rodgers, chief medical examiner. BD Wong began portraying FBI forensic psychiatrist Dr. George Huang toward the end of the season, replacing Dr. Emil Skoda (J.K. Simmons). The discovery of human remains in a garden leads to an investigation that includes a mail-order operation and a prostitution ring. The second season of this crime drama features several cast changes, including the additions of Detective Odafin “End” Tutuola (Ice-T), ADA Alex Cabot (Stephanie March), ME Melinda Warner (Tamara Tunie) and forensic psychologist George Huang (B.D. Wong) and the departure of Detective Monique Jeffries (Michelle Hurd). Among the cases investigated: a possible honour killing and the rape of an experienced police officer.
Guest stars include Richard Thomas as a serial killer and Eric Roberts as a community activist and ex-cop. Hurd eventually left the show to join the Showtime drama Leap Years. After leaving the show, Hurd said, “I think it`s just sad that they don`t believe they were going to stay with me.” [7] However, she said she had no bad feelings about her time at Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, but found casting for leap years to be a “rare opportunity.” [7] Gossip blogger Roger Friedman reported that Richard Belzer arranged for Hurd`s dismissal because his character had too much intrigue and diverted attention from him, but this account has never been confirmed. Although Jeffries left the Special Victims Unit during the episode “Asunder”, his character was still present in the episode “Runaway”, which marked the character`s last appearance.[8] “Runaway” was originally scheduled to air before “Asunder,” but was removed from service. [9] And so new scenes were shot to portray the episode as a “flashback”. Retcon`s explanation in “Runaway” is that Detective Jeffries moved to Vice and briefly returned to the SVU Squad room when they needed extra manpower for a case. Hurd was replaced by rapper Ice-T, who began portraying Detective Odafin “End” Tutuola. In episode fifteen, “Countdown,” Andrea Bowen played a key witness who helps CSR track down a serial killer. In the episode “Runaway”, Kelly Karbacz played a teenager who disappears.
Sean Nelson played a guest role that helped CSR search for her. Speaking about the showrunners of “Runaway,” Neal Baer said, “This is the only episode that`s ever aired once on the network — because it was stinky.” However, the producers decided to show a scene from the episode in the bonus DVDs of season 1 to analyze the character of Cragen. First season actors Christopher Meloni (Detective Elliot Stabler), Mariska Hargitay (Detective Olivia Benson), Richard Belzer (Detective John Munch) and Dann Florek (Captain Don Cragen) returned to the series for the second season.[11] Actress Michelle Hurd (Detective Monique Jeffries) began leaving the cast in the first half of the season. Burke and Neal Baer replace Robert Palm as executive producer. Baer took over in the season finale. Neal Baer, a former pediatrician, left the emergency room to work on Dick Wolf`s first spin-off, Law & Order. When Neal Baer explained how he first became interested in the series, he said he was “drawn to Mariska”[1], which was happening in the emergency room. Mariska Hargitay felt that Baer had given the series the direction it had previously lacked, explaining: “There was no consistency.
Dick wasn`t really there. We didn`t have a leader, we didn`t have a vision. Jonathan Greene also credited Baer with improving the quality of the series, saying, “He literally took that to the next level, but five or six levels beyond that. [3] In a video interview, Richard Belzer said: “The show is better this year, so I think it`s directly because he`s at the helm.
